Graduation

Motivation is the driving force that propels us towards our goals and aspirations, the engine behind our actions, and the spark that ignites our passions. It is the relentless determination that underlies our actions, the unwavering spirit that helps us overcome adversity, and the persistent energy that keeps us going, even when the going gets tough.

Compulsory Regulation 21 Training

The Regulation 21 of the Firearms control Act (Act 60 of 2000) states that any individual working with a company firearm and already possesses the qualification to use a firearm for business purposes, must undergo an annual assessment. During this assessment, the individual is expected to successfully complete at least a formal assessment (theoretical open book exam) and the qualification shooting as prescribed for the business purposes.

Individuals who is not already in possession of a certificate for the Handle and Use a handgun/ shotgun/ self loading rifle/ manual loading rifle for business purposes, must first undergo such training.
REG 21 is not a replacement or substitute for the full qualification.

Regulation 21 (2)(viii) and (ix)

Conditions regarding the providing of a firearm for use by another person in respect of a licence to possess a firearm for business purposes

 (viii) ensure that the security officers issued with firearms undergo at least one proper practical training session, at the cost of the security company, at least every 12 months, or within a shorter period as may be reasonably necessary in the circumstances, in the proper and safe handling and use of the relevant firearm and ammunition;

(ix) ensure that the security officers issued with firearms attend at least one briefing session, at the cost of the security company, every 12 months, or within a shorter period as may be reasonably necessary in the circumstances, during which they are properly informed of the relevant legal principles, rules and procedures and of their legal duties regarding the possession, carrying, safe custody and use of firearms and ammunition issued to them;

This tells us that every security officer who works with a firearm must attend a refresher course at least once per year at an accredited training centre like Karishma Training Academy. The training will be based on the Unit Standards for the Handle and Use of a firearm for business purposes.
It is expected of the security officer to successfully complete the qualification shooting in the relevant Unit Standards for business purposes. The Officer may only attend such a refresher course once he/she are in possession of a Competency Certificate issued by SAPS AND a training provider certificate for the successful completion of the relevant Business Purpose Unit Standard/s AND a Statement of Results issued through the PFTC (Professional Firearm Trainers Council) or a SASSETA certificate stating completion of the relevant Unit Standards.

Every security company MUST send their officers working with firearms for this training once a year. Make sure you comply when the SAPS visit your security company for an annual inspection.
